Published on 1999 by Editions Lansman

Published on 2012-10-01 by Bread and Circuses Publishing

The Das Kapital of the 20th century,Society of the Spectacle is an essential text, and the main theoretical work of the Situationists. Few works of political and cultural theory have been as enduringly provocative. From its publication amid the social upheavals of the 1960's, in particular the May 1968 uprisings in France, up to the present day, with global capitalism seemingly staggering around in it’s Zombie end-phase, the volatile theses of this book have decisively transformed debates on the shape of modernity, capitalism, and everyday life in the late 20th century. This ‘Red and Black’ translation from 1977 is Introduced by Notting Hill armchair insurrectionary Tom Vague with a galloping time line and pop-situ verve, and given a more analytical over view by young upstart thinker Sam Cooper.

Collaborations in Architecture and Engineering PDF
By:Clare Olsen,Sinead Mac Namara
Published on 2014-05-09 by Routledge

Collaborations in Architecture and Engineering focuses on team-building and problem-solving between architects and engineers to prepare you for working together in practice. It provides an overview and foundation for interdisciplinary collaboration so that you can create innovative proposals for optimization, performance, and aesthetic goals. It also shows you how to solve real-world problems and how to engage creatively with technological challenges so that you can be a productive member of any team. The authors, an architect and an engineer, share guidelines learned from their experiences and observations on how to insure productive communication, engage in interdisciplinary discussions, and establish common goals and values. Throughout the book are many case study examples of architect and engineer collaborations––such as those between SANAA and Mutsuro Sasaki, Foster + Partners and Buro Happold, Steven Holl and Guy Nordenson, and SHoP Architects and ARUP. The book also includes a discussion about integrated project delivery (IPD) contracts and administration, so you'll be ready for better integration.

Le calcul de la musique PDF
By:Laurent Pottier,Université Jean Monnet-Saint-Etienne.
Published on 2009 by

Repurposing Composition PDF
By:Shari J. Stenberg
Published on 2015-08-01 by University Press of Colorado

In Repurposing Composition, Shari J. Stenberg responds to the increasing neoliberal discourse of academe through the feminist practice of repurposing. In doing so, she demonstrates how tactics informed by feminist praxis can repurpose current writing pedagogy, assessment, public engagement, and other dimensions of writing education. Stenberg disrupts entrenched neoliberalism by looking to feminism’s long history of repurposing “neutral” practices and approaches to the rhetorical tradition, the composing process, and pedagogy. She illuminates practices of repurposing in classroom moments, student writing, and assessment work, and she offers examples of institutions, programs, and individuals that demonstrate a responsibility approach to teaching and learning as an alternative to top-down accountability logic. Repurposing Composition is a call for purposes of work in composition and rhetoric that challenge neoliberal aims to emphasize instead a public-good model that values difference, inclusion, and collaboration.

Music on Demand PDF

Published on 2017-09-29 by Routledge

In this remarkable study, Robert R. Faulkner shows that the Hollywood film industry, like most work communities, is dominated by a highly productive and visible elite who exercise major influence on the control of available resources, career chances, and access to opportunity. Faulkner traces a network of connections that bind together filmmakers (employers) and composers (employees) and reveals how work is allocated among composers and the division of labor within the Hollywood film community, using statistical analysis and highly revealing personal interviews. One of the very first empirical studies in the ||new economic sociology,|| Music on Demand shows the dynamics of markets constituted by the interaction between buyers and artistic talent (the producers and directors of feature films) and the sellers of artistic talent (the composers of film scores).Faulkner's interviews with those composers considered to be elite and those on the industry's periphery reveal how they perceive their careers, how they define commercial artistic success, and how they establish, or try to establish, those vital connections with filmmakers. Now available in paperback, this pioneering study will be of compelling interest to researchers in culture studies as well as readers interested in learning more about this little-known world.

Défis du récit scénique PDF
By:Matthijs Engelberts
Published on 2001 by Librairie Droz

Examples of world-renowned masters of architecture are used in this enlightening book that explores the |why| of architectural drawing, rather than the |how.| By emphasizing the value of drawing over technique, the authors demonstrate how the drawing itself influences the designer's processes of thought, and exerts its own pull on the evolution of the concept.

Painting machines PDF
By:Caroline A. Jones
Published on 1997 by Boston University Art Gallery

This volume examines contemporary images of machines. It includes a group of international artists who paint machines in powerful images which link the need for technological mastery and power to the art-making impulse itself. Works by Lawrence Gipe, Donald Sultan, Robert Moskowitz, and Mark Tansey are included. In addition, the book presents the work of sculptors (Liz Larner, Rebecca Horn, and Rosemarie Trockel) who make painting machines -- technologically fluent moving structures that both display themselves as art, and duplicate processes of artistic production. These witty, provocative assemblages provide a postmodern critique directed not at society's reliance on technology but at artistic traditions of |genius| that both proscribe the use of technology and mimic its powerful effects.

Victorian Perceptions of Renaissance Architecture PDF
By:Katherine Wheeler
Published on 2017-07-05 by Routledge

In the mid-1880s The Builder, an influential British architectural journal, published an article characterizing Renaissance architecture as a corrupt bastardization of the classical architecture of Greece and Rome. By the turn of the century, however, the same journal praised the Renaissance architect Filippo Brunelleschi as the ?Christopher Columbus of modern architecture.? Victorian Perceptions of Renaissance Architecture, 1850-1914 examines these conflicting characterizations and reveals how the writing of architectural history was intimately tied to the rise of the professional architect and the formalization of architectural education in late nineteenth-century Britain. Drawing on a broad range of evidence, including literary texts, professional journals, university curricula, and census records, Victorian Perceptions reframes works by seminal authors such as John Ruskin, Walter Pater, John Addington Symonds, and Geoffrey Scott alongside those by architect-authors such as William J. Anderson and Reginald Blomfield within contemporary architectural debates. Relevant for architectural historians, as well as literary scholars and those in Victorian studies, Victorian Perceptions reassesses the history of Renaissance architecture within the formation of a modern, British architectural profession.

Published on 2012-10-02 by Routledge

'Instead of tuning the consumer to the machine we can now tune the machine to the consumer' This edited collection of essays, now in its second edition, brings together the author's key writings on the cultural, technological and theoretical developments reshaping Modern architecture into a responsive and diverse movement for the twenty-first century. Chris Abel approaches his subject from a wide range of knowledge, including cybernetics, philosophy, new human science and development planning, as well as his experience as a teacher and critic on four continents. The result is a unique global perspective on the changing nature of Modern architecture at the turn of the millennium. Including two new chapters, this revised and expanded second edition offers radical insights into such topics as: the impact of information technology on customized architecture production; the relations between tradition and innovation; prospects for a global eco-culture, and the local and global forces shaping the architecture and cities of Asia. Chris Abel is an architectural writer and educator, based in Malta. He has taught at major universities in the UK, North and South America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East and is a contributor to numerous international journals and other publications. He currently holds visiting appointments at the University of Malta and the University of the Phillippines.
